Eye for an eye
Only a week after Chris Jericho punched HBK’s wife in the mouth at SummerSlam, Shawn Michaels entered the ring to address both the first-ever Undisputed Champion and the WWE Universe. Though Jericho wasn’t present, he communicated with HBK over the TitanTron. Putting aside his injuries and thoughts of retirement, Michaels challenged the unrepentant Superstar to an Unsanctioned Match at Unforgiven, so that both men and WWE would be absolved of responsibility for what happens in the match. Bristling, the man formerly known as Y2J, accepted the challenge.

Despite Shawn Michaels’ doctor’s suggestion to hang up his boots due to injury, HBK extended a challenge to Chris Jericho for an Unsanctioned Match at Unforgiven, where neither Jericho nor WWE would be liable if Michaels were to sustain further injury.

Can you blame HBK for doing everything he could to ensure that he would face Jericho at the aptly named Unforgiven?

What would you do if, just moments after you announced your retirement from the business you loved, that you gave your livelihood to and that you bled for, you were on your knees holding the fallen body of your wife, who was punched, without provocation, by the man who is solely responsible for your announcement?

For months now, Chris Jericho has plagued the life and career of HBK with his new sense of self-righteousness and his unrelenting verbal and physical attacks on The Showstopper. Ever since he revealed his true intentions after interjecting himself into Michaels’ business in April, Jericho has berated HBK and all the WWE Universe for supporting an “immoral” man. In the end, Jericho had even gone so far as to force Michaels’ hand in having to contemplate retirement after repeatedly attacking and re-injuring The Showstopper’s eye and possibly detaching his retina.

At SummerSlam, however, the first-ever Undisputed Champion may have been counterproductive in his actions when he struck Michaels’ wife, Rebecca, in the center of the WWE ring. Whether he meant to hit her or not, Jericho showed no remorse the next night on Raw, once again taking the moment to preach against HBK and all of the WWE Universe.

One week later on Raw, as Jericho accepted HBK’s challenge, Michaels promised that he won’t forgive Jericho for what he has done to his family and he won’t be looking to “steal the show.” He will be looking for one thing and one thing only – “an eye for an eye.”

With it now seeming as though Jericho has awoken a sleeping beast within Shawn Michaels, will the Superstar formerly referred to as Y2J be able to subdue the wrath of HBK? Or will it truly be “an eye for an eye” with Michaels exacting his revenge on the diabolical Jericho?

Shawn Michaels walked into Adamle’s office. Huge pop from the live crowd. Adamle told HBK to take as much time as he needs. When Michaels went to walk away, Adamle asked him how Rebecca is doing. HBK turned and looked at Adamle, then walked away without saying a word…

A shot aired of HBK walking backstage. Cole said they hoped to hear from Shawn after the break… Highlights aired from SummerSlam of the HBK, Rebecca, and Chris Jericho angle…

Shawn Michaels music played and he walked to the ring slowly and expressionless. Once in the ring, he said his wife was hurt, but she’s tough after being married to him for 10 years and she’ll be okay. He said he tried to be rational about the situation and tell himself that what Chris Jericho did was an accident.

Michaels said they watched Raw last week and saw Jericho express no remorse. He said he didn’t turn in a letter of resignation because he earned the right to say goodbye to his fans. He said Jericho blamed her for what happened. “That’s when I turned to her and I looked her right in the eyes and I knew… I knew that I was not going anywhere.” The crowd cheered and then booed.

Chris Jericho appeared on the TitanTron. He said HBK was a lucky man because he was in the WWE studios. He said he was asked not to be at the building because people feared what he would do to Michaels. Jericho said he beat Michaels within an inch of his life last time and didn’t want to face him because HBK would sue him and the company.

Michaels took off his jacket and got down on his knees. He said he wants the match because “if I do to you what I want to do to you, Chris Jericho, they’ll throw me in jail.” He said he would sign any type waiver to get Jericho in the ring. “No rules, no restrictions, no liabilities,” Michaels saidl. “I don’t want anyone responsible for what I’m going to do to you.”

Jericho snickered at HBK and reminded him that he’s the one who injured his eye. Jericho eventually accepted the match and warned HBK not to watch their Unforgiven pay-per-vew match. HBK said Jericho doesn’t know the meaning of Unforgiven. “I’m not looking to pin your shoulders to the mat and I’m not looking to steal the show,” Michaels said. “I only have one thing in mind. An eye for an eye.”

The song, the style, the attitude…And all it took was three words to jumpstart the theme for the most popular faction in WWE history, Degeneration-X. “Are You Ready?” became a household phrase, always letting the world know that Triple H and Shawn Michaels were ready to raise some hell - usually at somebody else’s expense. Breaking it down, and breaking the rules, DX ruled WWE, and if you’re not down with that…ah forget it, you already know.

He thinks he’s cute, he knows he’s sexy, he’s got the looks that drive the girls wild. And Shawn Michaels’ entrance theme reminds the WWE Universe all of that each time he enters an arena. The bravado HBK has carried to the rings ince he broke from Marty Jannetty is second to none, but Michaels has always backed it up in the squared circle. Garnering every majot title during his tenure in WWE, Michaels has thrilled his fans the whole time - but he’s not your boy toy. Just remember what HBK’s song says, and “keep your hands off the merchandise.”

WWE Superstars and Divas will be attending the Democratic and Republican National Conventions over the next two weeks as part of our Smackdown Your Vote! efforts to encourage more voters, ages 30 and younger, to vote in this year’s election.

Batista, Shelton Benjamin and Candice Michelle will attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver from Aug. 26 to 31. Shawn Michaels, Mr. Kennedy and Mickie James will attend the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., from Sept. 1 to 4.

Chris Jericho has become an easy man to dislike these days and looks to be the hottest antagonist in the WWE now that fellow Canadian Edge is vacationing in his condo in Hell. I hear it is nice there this time of the year even though it is the hurricane season.

Jericho’s accidental punch to Rebecca Michaels’ mouth resulted in still yet to be confirmed damage to the young mother of two and the wife of HBK. It was obvious Sunday that her lip had swollen quickly immediately after she was struck by Jericho. This personal issue is arguably the most compelling matter in the WWE these days.

Chris Jericho may be on the cusp of replacing fellow native Canadian Edge as the most disliked Superstar in the WWE after Jericho inadvertently struck HBK’s lovely wife Rebecca Sunday at Summerslam. I think both Jericho and Michaels should be traded to Friday Night Smackdown and commence to settling this issue in the ring. What about a former wedding planner and a wrestler to be named later? Plus, a case of J.R.’s BBQ Sauce! And 97% fat free beef jerky! This could be bigger than the Jets signing QB Brett Favre!

Following the volatile blow suffered at the hands of Chris Jericho at SummerSlam, rumors are abound that Shawn Michaels’ wife Rebecca may have fractured her jaw.

As the world witnessed on Sunday night on pay-per-view, Jericho’s errant punch connected with Rebecca’s jaw, causing immediate swelling about her face. The severity of her injury, however, remains unconfirmed as the Michaels family has maintained their privacy with regards to this situation.
